Protectoseal Authorized Distributor
About Protectoseal
Protectoseal, the industry leader in safety products for almost 100 years. Our comprehensive product line includes Pressure and Vacuum Relief Vents, Emergency Relief Vents, Flame Arresters, and Tank Blanketing Valve. Since our establishment in 1925, Protectoseal has been at the forefront of developing innovative solutions such as Pressure and Vacuum Relief Vents, Emergency Relief Vents, and Flame Arresters.
In 2022, the company reached an important milestone by acquiring Protectoseal, a leading manufacturer of Flame Arresters and Pressure Protection Equipment.
Specialization Area
As a pioneer in Pressure & Vacuum Relief Vents, Emergency Relief Vents, Flame Arrester, and Tank Blanketing Valve, Protectosealcontinues to set industry standards in the safety of industry equipment catering to sectors such as Biogas, Terminals &Bulk Storage, Oil & GasOffshore, Distilleries, Chemicals & Petrochemicals, Pharmaceuticals, Fuel Distribution, and Wineries.
Pressure and Vacuum Relief Vents
Pressure / Vacuum Relief Vents are employed where it is necessary or desirable to reduce the evaporation of tank contents into the atmosphere. These vents are generally designated as the conservation type. They are typically mounted to a flange or pipe that connects to the vapor space (space within the tank that is above the liquid surface) of a storage tank. The pressure in this vapor space increases or decreases as the liquid is pumped into or out of the tank, respectively. Atmospheric temperature changes cause an expansion or contraction of the vapors in this space, again resulting in pressure increases or decreases.
Emergency Relief Vents
In addition to the normal venting capacity provided by Protectoseal Pressure / Vacuum Relief Vents and/or Flame Arresters, every large above-ground flammable liquid storage tank should be provided with some means of relieving excessive internal pressure caused by exposure of the tank to a fire. Depending upon the strength of the tank structure, a vent sized to handle the normal venting requirements (for day-to-day operations) may be inadequate to handle the abnormal vapor efflux generated by heat from an exposure fire.
End-of-Line Deflagration Flame Arresters
In a “stand-alone” tank system, each tank is effectively isolated from the other storage tanks. The most likely ignition sources are external to the tank, and the transmission of a flame among multiple tanks can usually occur only by the spread of an external fire. In such a “stand-alone” system, the flame arrester is typically mounted at the end of the tank vent pipe (End-of-Line Deflagration Flame Arrester).
In-Line Deflagration Flame Arresters
Flame arresters are at times mounted directly upstream of pressure/vacuum relief vents or are connected to short runs of open vent outlet piping. These devices, known as “Vent-Line / In-Line” Deflagration Flame Arresters are designed with flanged or threaded mounting connections on both the inlet and the outlet. It is possible for a flammable vapor/air mixture to ignite within the confined space of the short outlet pipe or within the vent body.
In-Line Detonation Flame Arresters
Detonation” arresters are especially designed to stop and extinguish detonations, confined deflagrations, and unconfined deflagrations. The limitations that are placed on the location of the End-of-Line and Vent-Line / In-Line Deflagration Flame Arresters with respect to the ignition source do not apply to detonation arresters.
